Our thoughts on the food....part 1

Well it's been a fairly ordinary start to our American food experience. To be fair, we've been at touristy places so we can't expect too much.....here's some thoughts though:

1. The first hamburger: on the ordering board was a lovely picture of a hamburger with lettuce, tomato, cheese and sauce. On my tray was two pieces of weird textured bread and a crispy brown patty. My verdict: gross

2. Coffee; yuk and with this weird creamer stuff. What will mum do without good coffee?

3. Bread: the bread seems far removed from our idea of bread. No sourdough or wholemeal here, the sandwiches and rolls we've tried are a white, spongy sugary concoction. A bit like some sort of cake. ****Update: we have just had a late dinner at the hotel restaurant and were served two fresh, warm, crusty real-bread bread rolls. We devoured them and our faith in doughy carbs has been restored!

4. Hot dog. Bread was a yellow cake this time and the Frankfurt looked like a dog's tail. That was my exact quote when I saw it and it looked so horrible I didn't even try it. Plus it was served with these yukky deep fried potato crisps.

5. Nachos - while at the ice hockey. I liked it except for the weird liquid cheese which tasted like melted cheese slices. Mum thought it was pretty good, although mentioned it was perhaps the Coors Lite beer she had with it which may have made it taste better!

  1. Dylan sausage, is this your commentary? If so you are a fantastic writer and very entertaining. Phoebs, I forgot to tell you about the coffee, even cafe's dont get it right. We found starbucks the best bet for a semi decent coffee throughout the states. I am, we are, really enjoying your commentary.
